Claude Code training

Claude Code Training for Operators and Non-Developers

For ops leads, analysts, marketers and founders whose week runs on exports, spreadsheets and report packs. We teach Claude Code on your real files, then set up shared Skills, permissions and review habits in your own Claude account.

What Claude Code is, and why non-developers should care

Claude Code is Anthropic's agentic tool for working directly on files. Anthropic's documentation describes a tool that “reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands, and integrates with your development tools,” available in the terminal, code editors, the Claude desktop app and the browser. A codebase is just a folder of files, so the same abilities work on CSV exports, PDFs or report drafts.

Much operational work is files plus rules: export, clean, match, summarize, send. In chat, Claude explains how. In Claude Code, Claude does it on the actual files, shows each change for approval and can save the steps as a script or Skill. As of October 2026, Anthropic's pricing page lists Claude Code on the Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

Six Claude Code workflows we teach non-developers

Each is built on your own files during training.

    Clean and merge messy exports

Combine CRM, Shopify or accounting exports, remove duplicates, standardize fields and flag rows that need a person, with a script you can rerun.

    Build the weekly report pack

Turn the week's exports into the KPIs your leadership team reads, with a formatted summary and chart files in the same layout every week.

Validate files against a master list

Check incoming files against your rules and write an error report for each. It is the pattern behind our Mail New England n8n workflow, and Claude Code is a fast way to test the rules first.

    Extract data from documents

Pull fields from a folder of invoices, purchase orders or receipts into a spreadsheet, and list anything it couldn't read.

    Build small internal tools

A quote calculator, a product-spec lookup or a simple dashboard that runs on your own machine.

Turn a procedure into a Skill

Package a repeated procedure, such as the month-end report pack, as a Claude Skill your team runs with one slash command.

The Claude Code training curriculum: seven modules

Workshops cover the first four modules; team rollouts cover all seven.

    1. Setup and safety first

Install Claude Code in the desktop app or terminal, open a working folder, and learn permission prompts and plan mode before Claude touches anything that matters.

    2. Describing the job

Giving Claude Code the outcome, files, rules and a definition of done, and asking for a plan before any edits: the Description skill from the 4D AI Fluency Framework.

    3. Working with files and data

Reshaping, merging and checking files, writing scripts you can rerun and keeping originals untouched.

    4. Reviewing the work

Reading the list of changes, spot-checking outputs against the source and knowing when to reject a result.

    5. CLAUDE.md house rules

A CLAUDE.md file holds a folder's rules, such as naming conventions and what never to change. Claude Code reads it at the start of every session.

    6. Building Claude Skills

Writing, testing and sharing Skills for the procedures your team repeats, with an owner for each.

    7. Connecting tools with MCP

Connecting approved tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), starting read-only and adding write access only where a review step exists.

How to build Claude Skills in Claude Code

A Claude Skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file inside: a short header saying what the Skill does and when to use it, then plain-language instructions, plus any scripts or reference files it needs. Anthropic introduced Skills in October 2025. Claude loads a Skill only when a task calls for it, and in Claude Code you can run one directly as a slash command, such as /weekly-report.

The Skills our non-developer cohorts build follow five rules:

    • Start from something you keep pasting: the same instructions, checklist or procedure you retype every week.
    • Write the description first. Claude uses it to decide when to load the Skill.
    • Include one worked example with a real input and the exact output you expect.
    • Test on three real cases, including a messy one, before anyone relies on it.
    • Keep side effects manual. Skills that send, publish or delete should run only when a person calls them, and Claude Code has a setting for exactly that.

A Skill saved in a shared project folder, a plugin or managed settings reaches the whole team. See our glossary entry on Claude Skills.

Claude Code vs Cowork vs Claude chat: what to use when

    Claude Cowork training and setup

Cowork is the agentic mode Anthropic added to the Claude desktop app for non-coding work, and Anthropic describes it as using the same agentic approach as Claude Code. In September 2026 Anthropic began folding Cowork into the main Claude experience, starting with Pro and Max, with Team and other plans to follow.

The habits matter more than the mode, so we teach Cowork and Claude Code side by side: scope the folder, describe the outcome, approve the plan, review the result. For Projects, Skills and connectors across a team, see Claude training for teams.

Claude Code team setup and guardrails we configure

Claude Code can change files and run commands, so setup comes before speed.

    • Team or Enterprise seats instead of personal accounts for company work
    • Shared allow, ask and deny rules, including deny rules for credential files
    • Plan mode as the default for tasks that touch many files
    • Managed settings so admins can stop people switching off permission prompts
    • A CLAUDE.md file in every shared working folder
    • A shared Skills library with a named owner for each Skill
    • Read-only MCP connections first, with least-privilege access
    • Backups or version control before any batch edit

Who Claude Code training is for

Claude Code training fits people with recurring file work: operations managers reconciling exports, analysts rebuilding the Monday report, marketers cleaning lists and feeds, and founders who want an internal tool without hiring a developer. No coding background is needed.

If your work is mostly writing and research, Claude Projects cover more ground; our guide to Claude for business maps where each tool fits. When a procedure should run unattended with monitoring, our AI automation team rebuilds it in n8n, Make or Zapier.

Proof: Claude acting on real systems, with review gates

The review habits we teach come from production work. For ROAM Luggage, requested site changes flow through a custom n8n workflow, AI prioritizes them, and Claude executes them via MCP inside a Shopify development theme before a team member reviews and publishes. Critical site updates went from days to minutes; read the ROAM Luggage case study.

Training is led by co-founder Chad Westleigh, who has logged 5,500+ hours of hands-on AI work over the last two years and completed Anthropic's AI Fluency courses.

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code to use Claude Code?

No. You describe the result you want in plain English, and Claude Code writes and runs the steps. You do need comfort with files and spreadsheets and the habit of checking results, which the training builds.

Is Claude Code safe to run on company files?

It can be, with setup. Claude Code asks permission before editing files or running most commands, and admins can set allow, ask and deny rules and lock them with managed settings. We also block access to credential files.

Which Claude plans include Claude Code?

As of October 2026, Anthropic's pricing page lists Claude Code on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, but not Free. For company work we recommend Team or Enterprise so admins control settings. Plan details change, so we check them during scoping.

How long does Claude Code training take?

A workshop is a half or full day, and the first session ends with each person running a real task on their own files. A team rollout runs two to four weeks and adds shared Skills, managed settings and a review playbook.

What does it cost, and who owns what we build?

Cost depends on participants, modules, the Skills and connections in scope, and delivery format. We don't publish fixed prices; see how we price. Every Skill, script and settings file lives in your accounts and belongs to your company.
